Unbeaten Centre Dufferin finishes atop senior hoops loop

PALMERSTON – The Centre Dufferin Royals completed their unbeaten trek through the District 4 high school senior boys’ basketball season Wednesday when they downed the Norwell Varsity Reds 77-45 at Norwell.

The game was the lone after-exams game on the league’s schedule and it clinched first place in the four-team league for the Royals.

Unugbro had 16 points for Centre Dufferin while B. Hale had 15 for Norwell.

The Royals finish first at 6-0 while Norwell is second at 4-2, Westside Thunder third at 2-4 and Emmanuel Christian Eagles fourth at 0-6.

Playoffs are to begin Monday with the semifinals. Centre Dufferin is to host Emmanuel Christian while Westside is to play at Norwell. Both games have 2:30 p.m. starting times.

Winners are to meet in Wednesday’s final. Time and location of that game will be determined by the semifinal victors.

 

Junior Boys’ Basketball

The junior loop finished with three of the five teams having 6-2 records.

Centre Dufferin, Erin and Westside completed the regular season with identical records.

They had to go down the list of tiebreakers to get the final placing as the teams each had two wins and two losses in games against the two teams with which they were tied.

The points for and against differential in those games was used to break the tie. Centre Dufferin was first at 41 while Erin finished at -13 and Westside was at -28.

Wednesday, Westside defeated Erin 64-58 and Centre Dufferin downed the Wellington Heights Wolverines 77-35.

Z. Barbosa had 23 points for Westside in the game against Erin. The Raiders were led by K.S. Dhillon with 16.

Thomas collected 22 points for the Royals in the win over Wellington Heights while Neal had 19 for the Wolverines.

Emmanuel Christian finished fourth in the standings at 2-6 while Wellington Heights was fifth at 0-8.

Monday’s semifinals has Westside slated to play at Erin at 2:30 p.m. and Emmanuel Christian to play at Centre Dufferin at 4 p.m.

The final is to go Wednesday.
