Wellington Heights claims junior boys’ soccer title

MOUNT FOREST – The Wellington Heights Wolverines captured the District 4 high school junior boys’ soccer championship Tuesday with a 7-1 victory over the Erin Raiders on their own field.

Madden Brummell and Pryce Leask scored twice apiece for the Wolverines while Kellen Campos-Callaghan, Noah Schlosser and Reuben Seddon added single goals.

Kanan Ribeiro had the goal for Erin.

The two teams were the only ones who participated in the league this season. Wellington Heights won both regular-season meetings as they triumphed 5-3 at home Sept. 25 and 6-0 at Erin Oct. 16.

The Wolverines advance to the CWOSSA junior boys’ championship tournament to be held at the University of Guelph’s Gryphon Soccer Complex Thursday and Friday.

Wellington Heights is to be in Pool A along with the District 10 finalist Centennial Spartans and the District 6/11 (WCSSAA) champion Kitchener-Waterloo CVS (KCI) Raiders of Kitchener.

Participating in Pool B are to be the District 10 champion Guelph CVI Green Gaels, District 8 champion St. Mary’s Eagles of Kitchener and the WCSSAA finalist Waterloo CI Vikings.

Pool play is set for Thursday with games at 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Top two in each pool advance to the crossover semifinals Friday at 9:30 a.m. Semifinal winners are to battle in the championship match at 12 p.m.
