Westside clinches first in senior and junior volleyball

ORANGEVILLE – The Westside Thunder clinched a first-place finish in the District 4 high school senior girls’ volleyball standings by winning a trio of matches Wednesday on their own court.

The Thunder edged the Norwell Varsity Reds and Emmanuel Christian Eagles by 2-1 scores and they swept the Erin Raiders 3-0.

Westside leads the league at 9-1 while Norwell is at 6-4, Wellington Heights Wolverines are at 4-3, Emmanuel Christian is at 3-4, Centre Dufferin Royals are at 2-5 and Erin is at 0-7.

Westside and Norwell have finished their regular seasons while the other four are to complete their regular seasons Wednesday when the four of them gather at Erin for a series of matches postponed by weather in January.

The playoffs involving the top four teams in the league is set for Feb. 20, likely at Westside. Semifinals and final in both senior and junior are to be held that day.

Junior Girls’ Volleyball

Westside also secured first in junior as the Thunder stand at 10-0 following three victories Wednesday.

The Thunder blanked Norwell and Erin 3-0 and edged Emmanuel Christian 2-1, the dropped set being the first one the Thunder has lost this season.

Emmanuel Christian is second at 5-2, Wellington Heights third at 4-3, Erin fourth at 3-4, Centre Dufferin fifth at 1-6 and Norwell sixth at 1-9.

The league is to wrap up its regular season Wednesday.
