Westside Thunder claim senior, junior volleyball finals

ORANGEVILLE – The Westside Thunder swept the District 4 high school girls’ volleyball finals on their home court Tuesday when they won both the senior and junior titles.

In senior, the Thunder blanked the Emmanuel Christian Eagles 3-0 in the final. Westside won 25-22, 25-14, 25-11.

Both of the championship game combatants swept their semifinal matches earlier in the day. Westside defeated the Wellington Heights Wolverines 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-20) and Emmanuel Christian downed the Norwell Varsity Reds 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-16).

The Thunder’s title win was their fifth in a row in senior.

Westside swept the Erin Raiders 3-0 in the junior final, winning 25-5, 27-25, 25-16.

In the junior semifinals, the Thunder defeated Wellington Heights 3-1 (25-21, 26-24, 24-26, 25-9) and Erin edged Emmanuel Christian 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 15-13).

The championship win for Westside was their first junior title victory since 2018.

Westside advances to the CWOSSA AA tournaments at Waterloo’s St. David Catholic Secondary School. Senor tournament is Thursday and the junior tournament is to go Friday.
