Whalers pull away with six goals in third to top Flyers

GODERICH – The Fergus Whalers struck for six goals in the third period as they clobbered the Goderich Flyers 11-1 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday at the Goderich Maitland Recreation Complex.

The Whalers led 3-0 at the end of the first period, 5-0 at the end of the second and had doubled that lead in the third period before Goderich scored its lone goal of the game.

Tyler Ewald, Ty Anselmini and Andrew McClure had two goals apiece for the Whalers while JJ Lavigne, Kyle Parsons, Boden Brimmell, Jett Morningstar and Henry Turner netted single goals. Turner also had three assists while Zach Nault and Parsons each had two assists and Campbell Hobson, Keegan Clarke, Jack Webley, Anselmini, McClure, Morningstar and Jacob Lesser each had one.

Mitch Perry scored for Goderich on an unassisted effort at 12:48 of the third.

The Whalers outshot the Flyers by at least a 29-18 margin – shots were not recorded in the third period unless Fergus scored on all six shots it had in the period and Goderich scored on its lone shot of the period.

Jacob McKenney was in net for the Whalers while Logan Bromley was in goal for Goderich.

The result leaves Fergus fifth in the eight-team Pollock Division at 11-12-3-2 and Goderich eighth at 2-25-1-2.
