Windsor Lancers squeeze by Gryphon softball women

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons suffered a pair of close losses Saturday on the main diamond on the University of Guelph Campus as they dropped a doubleheader to the Windsor Lancers.

Windsor took the opening game 3-1 and the nightcap 13-12.

The losses drop the Gryphs to sixth in the seven-team West Division at 3-5 after being swept at home on the weekend by the top two teams in the division standings. They had lost to the Western Mustangs Friday night.

Western leads the division at 10-0 while Windsor is second at 8-2. The Lancers are followed by the Brock Badgers at 5-3, Laurier Golden Hawks at 5-5, Waterloo Warriors at 4-6, the Gryphs and the McMaster Marauders trail at 1-7.

Toronto Varsity Blues lead the six-team East Division at 6-2 while the Ottawa Gee-Gees are second at 7-5, Queen’s Gaels third at 3-3, Toronto Metropolitan Bold fourth at 4-4, York Lions fifth at 1-7 and Carleton Ravens sixth at 1-9.

The Gryphs are to play Brock at St. Catharines Friday and McMaster at Hamilton Saturday. Friday’s doubleheader is to start at 7 p.m. while Saturday’s twinbill is to get going at 2 p.m.
