Wolverines finish second in senior volleyball standings

MOUNT FOREST – The host Wellington Heights Wolverines swept three matches during the District 4 high school senior boys’ volleyball regular-season mini-tournament Monday to claim second place in the final standings.

The Wolverines defeated the Norwell Varsity Reds, Erin Raiders and Westside Thunder, all by 3-0 scores, to move to second.

The idle Centre Dufferin Royals had already clinched the top spot with a 10-0 record while Wellington Heights finished second at 7-3. Westside is at 5-4 with a score of a match against Erin to be reported while the Emmanuel Christian Eagles, also idle Monday, are at 5-5. Erin is at 1-8 and Norwell is at 1-9.

The championship playoffs are to be held Tuesday at Centre Dufferin with the Royals and Wolverines hosting semifinal matches at 10 a.m. Westside and Emmanuel Christian will play in the semifinals, but the match-ups depend on the result of Monday’s unreported match.

Semifinal winners are to meet in the final Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Centre Dufferin.

Junior Boys’ Volleyball

The junior playoff tournament is also to go at Centre Dufferin Tuesday.

Semifinals at 11:30 a.m. have Centre Dufferin playing Emmanuel Christian and Norwell battling Westside.

Winners move on to the 2:30 p.m. final.

Westside and Emmanuel Christian finished tied for first at 6-2 while Centre Dufferin was third at 5-3, Norwell fourth at 2-6 and Wellington Heights fifth at 1-7.

Westside and Emmanuel Christian split their regular-season matches with each team winning 2-1. The Thunder were awarded first due to outscoring the Eagles 134-125 in their two matches, a 25-9 set win in the second match helping to give Westside the win in the tiebreaker.
