Woodstock’s four-goal second does in Hespeler Shamrocks

WOODSTOCK – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded four goals in the second period as they were handed a 7-4 setback by the Woodstock Navy Vets in PJHL play Friday night at the Woodstock District Community Complex.

The teams had been tied 2-2 at the end of the first period before Woodstock surged ahead 6-3 by the end of the second period.

Gavin Logher, Jack Restauri, Braeden Tyler and Mathew Styka each had a goal for the Shamrocks while Logher had two assists and Tyler, Restauri, Andrew Harris, James Ramani and Justin George each had one.

Chris Coulter and Ty Crombie scored twice apiece for the Navy Vets while single goals were added by Ethan Szabo, Nolan Brett and Brady Carne. Brodie Kearns had three assists while Davin Gray and Cole Dann each had two assists and Tyler Smeda, Mitch Penner, Owen Lukings and Szabo each had one.

Woodstock outshot Hespeler 34-25 including a 25-14 advantage after the first period. Both teams had two power-play goals, the Shamrock on six power plays and the Navy Vets on five.

Lucas Hillert had 27 saves for Hespeler while Scott Rodrigue had 21 for Woodstock.

The win keeps the Doherty Division-leading Navy Vets unbeaten as they’ve won all nine games they’ve played. Hespeler drops to 3-5-0-0.

The Shamrocks are to host the Norwich Merchants (2-5-1-0) Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
